The Houston Astros selected him out of high school in the 1995 amateur draft as a pitcher. Mark then went on to letter and coach at Eastern Illinois University. During Mark’s career at EIU he was a team captain of an Ohio Valley Conference championship team and ranks in the top ten in career hits, home runs, RBIs and batting average in EIU history. Mark played professionally with the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League in 2000. Mark is also a member of the American Pitching Association.
Coach Stone’s comments on Mark Tomse- “Mark and I were teammates at Eastern Illinois, so we’ve had a baseball relationship for a long time. Since our playing days, Mark and I have worked numerous hitting classes and camps together. He is a “student of the game,” and its been fun for us to bounce ideas off each other as we’ve both grown by studying and researching about the swing. Mark uses video analysis and high speed cameras to help demonstrate to players the things he should be doing. Mark is also one of those unique players that was drafted out of high school as a pitcher, but played professionally as a hitter. As you can see, a very talented individual.”
