Hitting, Defense

Mickey is from Des Plaines and started his collegiate career at TCU (Texas Christian University) before transferring to the University of Connecticut.  As Mickey bounced around Division 1 baseball he finally ended up at Valparaiso University where he was an All-Conference player and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

With Pittsburgh, Mickey played for Williamsport in the New York-Penn League and then Hickory in the South Atlantic League.  Mickey finished his playing career in 2003 with Alexandria in the Independent Central League.

Mickey started working for Elite Baseball Training in the winter of 2010 and is also the hitting coach at Oakton College.

Coach Stone’s comments on Mickey Scala“Mickey will be a successful coach at any level because he has the two key qualities it takes for coaching – personality and knowledge.  Mickey’s background as a former pro player and now a college coach, allows him to transfer his experience to help high school and college players find their way in the game.  His ‘kid-like’ personality makes him a hit with the little guys.  Mickey is fun to be around and his energy shows in his coaching.”
